I have been taking photographs for almost my entire life. My grandmother was an early photographer and placed a Kodak box camera in my hands soon after she took away my baby bottle. Over the course of my life so far, I have photographed weddings, sports events, nature, cats, racing, aviation, travels and Wisconsin subjects.  I have used both film and digital; still and video; color and black & white.

I was born in Monticello, Wisconsin and spent my first 10 years on a farm worked by my parents and grandparents.  My parents then moved off the farm and into the restaurant business. I grew up working in every position in the restaurant, from dishwasher to cook. In high school I was one of those camera club nerds. By then I had moved from the old Kodak box camera to using my dad’s 35mm film camera. After I graduated from high school, I attended some college at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. There I took photography courses in both the art and journalism departments.  But my main interest was becoming an airline pilot. By then I was a licensed pilot and working my way up. That is until the end of the Vietnam War. Too many former military jet pilots were on the market. I turned to computers to make a living, but still kept my hand in photography.

Over the years friends and acquaintances admired my images and told me I should sell some of my photographs. It took some time to get up the courage to place my work out for public viewing. The fine group of artists of the 14 South Artists membership helped me get ready for my first art show at the end of 2008.

Besides art shows, I have my work year round in the Diakonos Designs Gallery in Stoughton Wisconsin. I will also have my work in the Door County Art League’s Gallery located in the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek, Door County, Wisconsin. They are open May through October.

Both the farm and restaurant have taught me the value of hard work. Photography takes hard work, just like a farm or restaurant to get good results.

I live with my wife, Ann, our cats, Princess and Newbie in rural Wisconsin.
